Integrating a Maintenance Schedule into the MyAudi Portal

Summary

Users want to confidently understand the required maintenance recommended for their Audi vehicles, and trust the information provided to them. We saw an opportunity within the myAudi portal to provide a maintenance schedule for our user, here’s how we did it:

The opportunity

The myAudi portal offers users a seamless and reliable platform, serving as a single source of accurate information for their Audi vehicle.

 

During the redesign of the Service Tab, we identified an opportunity to enhance our user experience by introducing an integrated maintenance schedule for their vehicle.

 

The existing experience involved an external link directing users to a website that did not look trustworthy. It lacked Audi branding and provided a frustrating experience.

Winning approval

We started a discovery sync with UI & UX to evaluate the functionality of the current experience and explore avenues for improvement.

 

These insights provided valuable direction on where to focus our efforts to improve the user experience, and expand on the current features.

 

With these insights we created a high fidelity wireframe prototype to pitch our idea to our product owner and got buy-in to add it to our design roadmap.

The challenge

​As a comprehensive digital platform for Audi owners, the MyAudi portal lacked an integrated maintenance schedule, leaving users without an easy way to track upcoming service needs.

 

This gap resulted in decreased user engagement, missed maintenance opportunities, and frustration for owners seeking a seamless experience.

Contraints

A significant constraint that shaped our design choices stemmed from how the maintenance package data was organized within the API we employed. Due to our inability to alter the API calls or backend categorization, we had no ability to rename, or change categorization.

The secondary challenge we faced was at the time of this project users did not have access to schedule appointments directly through the myAudi portal.

Our goals

To design and integrate a maintenance schedule into the MyAudi portal that:

Provides users with a clear, intuitive view of their vehicle’s service needs.

Offers actionable reminders to encourage timely maintenance.

Enhances the overall myAudi portal experience by fostering user trust and convenience.

UI design approach

After the UX sprints were completed and approved by the product owner, we transitioned into the UI phase. During the discovery period, I identified areas for improvement in the initial concept designs.

 

Specifically, I restructured the information to make it more intuitive by replacing the tab navigation for finding the current mileage with a streamlined input field. This adjustment simplified the user flow and addressed usability challenges, ensuring a more efficient experience.

By maintaining a clean and scannable UI, we ensured that important information was presented without clutter.

The outcome

Following several rounds of iteration, we developed a UI that seamlessly integrates Audi's branding with an engaging user experience.

 

Addressing user needs, we presented maintenance schedule information in an easily accessible and comprehensible format, thereby enhancing trust and understanding regarding the maintenance of Audi vehicles for users.

Reflection

This project reinforced the value of bridging user needs with business goals while working within technical constraints. By integrating a user-friendly maintenance schedule, we transformed a critical pain point into an opportunity to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Design goals

User Adoption Rate

Increase in users actively engaging with the myAudi portal service tab compared to previous engagement. 

Task Completion Time

Reduce the average time it takes for users to find their current milage maintenance requirements and then schedule a service. 

Error & Drop-off Rate

Reduce the number of errors and incomplete attempts users encounter while using the maintenance scheduling feature.

Problem solutions

Users must be able to easily find and understand the required maintenance for their vehicle, as well as when to schedule their appointments.

Using a left-aligned input field for users to enter their current mileage, along with a summary of the upcoming service milestones helps users to understand the maintenance services recommended for their vehicle.

Users must clearly understand the process for booking a maintenance service appointment.

Include a summary of vehicle information, such as the vehicle details and VIN, paired with a clear call-to-action guides users to their next step: booking a service appointment with their preferred dealer.
